How to Restore a Factory Default Image Using an Optical Disc

    Gateway

    • 1). Place the first recovery disc in the optical drive of your Gateway computer, then restart the computer.

    • 2). Press "F12" repeatedly while the computer is booting up until you arrive at the Boot Menu. Press the "down arrow" button until CDROM/DVD is highlighted, then press "Enter."

    • 3). Insert the second recovery disc when you are prompted, then press "Enter." The computer will restart automatically and you can begin setting up Windows with your personal settings.

    Toshiba

    • 1). Place the recovery disc into the optical drive and restart your Toshiba computer.

    • 2). Press "F12" repeatedly when the computer starts to boot up until you are taken to the Boot Menu.

    • 3). Highlight "CD/DVD" then press "Enter." The Toshiba Recovery Wizard opens on your screen. Click the white circle to the left of "Recovery of Factory Defaults Software," then click "Next."

    • 4). Click the white circle to the left of "Recover to out-of-the-box-state," then click "Next." Click "Next" when a confirmation message appears telling you that continuing the process will erase all of the information on the hard drive and restore the computer to its original factory settings. The recovery process begins.

    • 5). Press "Enter" to restart the Toshiba computer when a message appears notifying you that the computer has been restored to its original factory settings. After the computer restarts, you can continue setting up Windows with your own personal settings.

    Alienware

    • 1). Place the Alienware Respawn disc into your optical drive and restart the computer.

    • 2). Press "Enter" when a message appears during the boot process telling you that running the Alienware Respawn program will erase your hard drive. The Symantec Ghost window will appear on your screen.

    • 3). Remove the Alienware Respawn disc from the optical drive, then insert the Alienware Respawn Image disc. Click "OK." Click "Local," "Disc," then "From Image." The Image File Name To Restore From dialog box appears on the screen.

    • 4). Click the drop-down menu to the right of "Look In," then select the optical drive containing the Image disc. Highlight the only file on the disc, then click "Open." Highlight the second drive in the list that appears on the screen, then click "OK."

    • 5). Click "OK" again, then click "Yes" to initiate restoring the computer to its factory default image. Click "Reset Computer" when the process is complete, then click "Yes" to restart the computer and set up Windows with your personal settings.
