- 1). Remove the floor trim from the edge of the floor, using a hammer and pry bar. Make sure not to break the trim as you remove it, as you will have to reinstall it later. Set it aside.
- 2). Roll out a strip of underlayment on the floor along the wall where you want to start. Cut the underlayment to size.
- 3). Set a laminate floorboard at the end of the floor alongside the starting wall. Set spacers between the board and the walls. Link a second board to the end of the first, locking them together by their fittings.
- 4). Put the rest of the boards of the first course in place, linking them end to end along the whole wall. Cut the last board to size so it fits at the end, using a miter saw.
- 5). Set the second row of floorboards next to the first row, linking them along their long sides. Arrange them so the ends don't line up between the courses.
- 6). Repeat this procedure for each new course of boards, working your way across the floor course by course, laying more strips of underlayment as needed. Cut the boards of the last course on a table saw lengthwise as needed to fit alongside the ending wall. Leave a ¼-inch to 3/8-inch gap between the last course and the wall.
- 7). Use finishing nails to set the trim back in place, covering the gaps by the walls.
