- 1). Launch a video-editing program that can also use still images. iMovie and Windows Movie Maker, the native video programs on Mac and Windows machines, respectively, both have still image capabilities. Other video-editing applications such as Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro can also work with still images.
- 2). Click the "Import Media" button on the main screen of the video program or go to "File>Import" to add still images to the project. When the "Add" window opens, navigate to the folder where the pictures you want to use in the slideshow are saved. Click on a picture file and press the "Open" button.
- 3). Load the music file into the project. To load the file click "Import Media" or go to "File>Import" again, open the folder where the music file is stored and double-click the file to open it.
- 4). Place the music file on the video program's timeline. To move the file to the timeline, click on the name of the music file in the media pane where all of the imported files appear. Hold down the mouse button and drag the file to the track labeled "Music" or "Audio."
- 5). Add the photos to the movie project. Drag each photo, one at a time, from the media pane to the track labeled "Video" on the timeline. To change the length of time that each picture appears on the screen, click on the right edge of the clip on the timeline, hold down the mouse button and drag the edge to the left to shorten the clip or to the right to lengthen the clip.
- 6). Preview the project frequently by pressing the play button on the preview screen. Previewing the project can help you decide how long each clip should play and where to put each picture so that it fits the music.
- 7). Save the slideshow as a movie once the pictures are properly arranged. In nearly all programs, save the project by going to the "File" menu and then choosing either "Publish" or "Export." In iMovie, the "Export" option is found in the "Share" menu.
- 8). Push a DVD into the computer's slot. Burn the slideshow to the disc using any DVD-writing program. If you do not have a DVD-writing program that you regularly use, you can download a free program for writing your slideshow to disc at CNET.
