- 1). Cut the foam tube to the length of the pipe you want to insulate. Pull the slit on the side of the foam insulation tube apart at one end. Push the foam tube against the CPVC pipe, so that the pipe begins to enter the hollow center of the foam tube. Continue pulling the slit on the foam tube apart, and feeding in the CPVC pipe, until the tube is fully around the pipe.
- 2). Pull off the plastic strips inside the slit that cover the glued areas. Push the slit together with your hands along the length of the tube to seal the edges together.
- 3). Install the next foam tube around the CPVC pipe, butting it to the end of the first tube, and following hte same application process. Wrap insulation tape around the joint where the ends of the two foam pieces meet to provide added insulation. Continue in this fashion until all the CPVC water pipes are insulated.
- 4). Insulate around an angle in the CPVC pipe -- such as a 45- or 90-degree coupling -- by making a cut two-thirds of the way through the foam tube at the point where the angle will be covered. Start the cut on the slit side of the tube. Make a second cut one inch away from the first, angled so that the two cuts meet. This will cut out a wedge-shaped piece of foam tube.
- 5). Install the foam tube around the angled pipe. Wrap insulation tape around the angled section of the foam tube.
