- 1). Empty the room of all objects that are at risk of being damaged or soiled by stray sand. Cover any additional exposed surfaces with heavy plastic sheeting if you want to keep them clean as well.
- 2). Ventilate the worksite to provide circulation. Put on a complete painter's suit with a hood included, and wear safety goggles and a respirator at all times while sandblasting.
- 3). Switch the valves off on the sandblaster and fill the tank entirely with silica sand. This standard granule can be purchased at home improvement retailers and some hardware stores.
- 4). Start the sandblaster's compressor and let it pressurize between 40 and 100 PSI. Adjust the projection pressure to a low setting.
- 5). Point the nozzle of the wand at the targeted wall in the room. Hold it at least 8 inches from your body and squeeze the trigger.
- 6). Begin blasting the room from top to bottom with controlled sweeping motions. Use short bursts for problem areas, gradually increasing the pressure setting if necessary.
