- 1). Fill the kitchen sink with warm water and add 2 squirts of dish soap. Use a sponge wet with the soapy water to scrub the refrigerator where the scratches are located. The surface must be free of dirt and grease to give the repair the best chance of being successful. Let the refrigerator dry completely.
- 2). Sand the scratched area using emery paper. Lightly glide the emery paper over the scratch using a medium amount of pressure. The emery paper will help prepare the area for painting.
- 3). Paint the scratched area using black appliance touch-up paint and a 1/4-inch paint brush. Dab the paint into the scratch rather than using strokes to apply it. Allow the paint to dry according to the instructions and apply a second coat to provide a deeper finish.
