How to Fix Low Padding in Living Room Couches

    • 1). Remove all of the cushions from the couch and examine the frame carefully. Look for things such as broken springs, loose screws or damaged wood slats that could be causing the couch to sag and the cushions to sit too low. Repair any damage to the frames or springs to see if that improves the situation.

    • 2). Unzip the couch cushion covers and remove the inserts. Examine the inserts for holes or low spots. If you find holes or low spots, place those problem areas face down when you put the cushions back on the couch.

    • 3). Rotate the couch cushions often, especially if you tend to sit on one side of the sofa more than the other. Over time, those cushions can become worn and flat, and moving them around helps them wear more evenly.

    • 4). Remove the cushion inserts from the covers if the above steps do not fix the problem. Lay the cushion covers on a flat surface and smooth out all of the wrinkles. Measure the length and width of the covers. Add 1 inch to the measurements to ensure a proper fit. For a cushion cover with ears, small tabs of fabric that fit over the seams, add an additional 1/2 inch. Also measure the thickness of the cushion least flattened out.

    • 5). Provide the measurements to the store where you purchased the couch or to a retailer of foam inserts, then place your order. When the inserts arrive, place them in their covers to make your couch more comfortable.
