- 1). Ensure the connection between your DirecTV satellite receiver and your DirecTV DSS satellite is still secure. The satellite and the receiver communicate via the coaxial cable. This cable comes out of the back of the DirecTV DSS satellite and should lead down to where your satellite receiver lies installed next to or atop your television. Make sure this coaxial cable is securely plugged into the DirecTV receiver's "Ant In" slot.
- 2). Ensure that the integrity of the connection between the DirecTV satellite receiver and your television is intact. This connection is established by the included composite audio/video cable. The composite A/V cable has a dual sets of prongs, with one set on either cable end. Each set of prongs on the composite cable has one yellow, one red and one white prong. With this in mind, look at the back of your TV and the DirecTV satellite receiver. There will be yellow, red and white composite ports here that accommodate your composite cable. Match the prongs up to the ports and make the connections.
- 3). Turn on the TV and the DirecTV satellite receiver. Select the "Signal Meter Option" from the onscreen menu.
- 4). Head outside to the DirecTV DSS satellite. Leave a friend with the signal meter to report back to you.
- 5). Create adjustments to the elevation (up/down) orientation of the DirecTV DSS satellite. Each adjustment should be slight, and there should be an interval of five seconds to 10 seconds between each so that the signal meter has time to gauge the changes and update. The signal meter will provide your friend with information regarding the current strength of the satellite signal and how close the DirecTV DSS satellite is to pointing to the proper coordinates. This information can then be relayed to you for further adjustments.
- 6). Create adjustments to the azimuth (left/right) orientation of the DirecTV DSS satellite, just as you did with the elevation adjustments. Use the signal meter to continue making orientation adjustments to the DirecTV DSS satellite until the meter indicates all coordinates have been reached.
