How to Change the Aspect Ratio on a Flip Video

    • 1). Connect the Flip Video camera to your computer with the USB. The computer should recognize the camera. If you have not already downloaded the drivers, your computer will walk you through the process. Once the program is loaded, all videos on the Flip will display. You can choose the videos you want to save by highlighting them and selecting "Save to Computer." The program will ask you to create an album name and then save the video to the computer.

    • 2). Download a Flip Video converter software. These software programs allow you to work with downloaded videos to change their viewing formats, add effects to the videos and change the aspect ratio. Changing the aspect ratio will allow the video to be viewed on different devices without the images being squeezed or stretched. Two Flip Video converting software programs are iorgsoft and Flip Converter. The cost as of 2011 for these programs is $35.

    • 3). Open the software you purchased and select the "Add video" option. This will allow you to search your computer hard drive for videos that you want to convert. Find the album that you saved from Step 1 and click on the video to edit in the converter software.

    • 4). Click the "Edit" button within the software once you've selected your video. In this screen you will be able to see "Aspect Ratio" or "Zoom" listed in the tool bars. When you click on the drop-down menu, it will list what options are available for aspect ratios.

    • 5). Select between the different ratios until you find the ratio and look that you want to have for the video. Once all the aspect ratios have been changed, go back to the main screen of the software and click "Start" or "Convert" to convert the video to the new format.
