Olympus E3 Specs

    Identification

    • The E-3 is a single-lens camera based on the Four Thirds lens mount. It measures 5.60 inches wide, 4.58 inches tall and 2.90 inches thick, excluding lenses and other protrusions. By itself the body weighs 1.79 lbs. For on-board power, the E-3 comes with a rechargeable BLM-1 lithium-ion battery pack. The E-3 stores image data to Compact Flash and xD Picture cards and is compatible with Olympus Zuiko Digital lenses. Along with the BLM-1 battery, the fully splash-proof magnesium alloy E-3 body ships with a BCM-2 battery charger, one USB cable, a shoulder strap, video cable, CD-ROM, instruction manual and warranty card.

    Imaging and Recording

    • The Olympus E-3 features a high-speed TruePic III Live MOS sensor capable of capturing 10.1 million effective pixels and approximately 11.8 million total pixels. The camera's image sensor measures 0.68 inches by 0.512 inches and features a four to three aspect ratio. It features a fixed type low-pass filter and hybrid IR cut filter. A Supersonic Wave Filter handles dust reduction. The camera records to both RAW and JPEG image formats. RAW images record at 3648 by 2736 pixels. JPEG images can record images as small as 640 by 480 pixels and as large as 3648 by 2736 pixels.

    Viewfinder and Monitor

    • The E-3 has a single-lens eye-level reflex viewfinder that magnifies at a ratio of approximately 1.15x. It features a built-in eyepiece shutter, interchangeable eye cup and advanced auto focus and Live View capabilities. The E-3 also features a 2.5-inch HyperCrystal semi-transmissive color TFT LCD display monitor. The monitor displays a total of 230,000 pixels and has 15 different auto and manual brightness control levels.

    Exposure Control and Shutter

    • The E-3 features a TTL open-aperture metering system with multi-pattern metering of up to 49 points. It features spot metering, digital ESP metering and center-weighted average metering capabilities. Exposure modes include Program AE, Aperture Priority AE, Shutter Priority AE and Manual. ISO sensitivity is available from ISO 100 through ISO 3200 in both auto and manual modes. The E-3 uses a computerized focal-plane shutter featuring shutter speeds ranging from 60 seconds to 1/8000 of a second. Capture speeds are available at up to five frames per second.

    Additional Features

    • Additional features of the Olympus E-3 include automatic white balance, five different picture modes, advanced adjustment, filter and tone control. The E-3 has a built-in retractable flash, wireless flash control, hot shoe, video output and a USB 2.0 interface connection.
