How to Hook Up Genesis Surround Sound Speakers

    • 1). Arrange the speakers in the room according to the label on the back of each. Front left and right speakers should flank the television or projection screen for stereo separation of at least 10 feet between the speakers, as recommended by Dolby Laboratories. The center channel, which produces much of the dialog in movies, should be positioned above or below the TV. Surround sound left and right rear speakers face the back of the seating area and should be angled inward about 45 degrees.

    • 2). Unspool and cut a length of speaker wire to connect each Genesis unit with the AV receiver. Use the wire strippers to remove about 1/2 inch of plastic shielding from the two ends on each speaker wire. Use 18-gauge speaker wire for distances of 10 feet or less. A 14-gauge wire can be used for runs of up to 35 feet between the speaker and receiver.

    • 3). Unscrew the two binding posts on the back of each Genesis speaker to expose a bare-metal bolt underneath the post.

    • 4). Wrap the end of each speaker wire around a bolt on the back of the Genesis speaker. Wires are usually color-coded, so wrap one wire around the positive (+) terminal and the other wire around the negative (-). Tighten the binding posts clockwise to secure the wires to the Genesis.

    • 5). Attach the wire from each speaker to the positive and negative terminals labeled for that speaker on the rear of the surround sound receiver. For example, connect the wire from the left front Genesis to the LF speaker connections on the receiver. The rear surround sound speakers connect to the LR and RR terminals on the receiver. Be sure the wire from the positive terminal on each Genesis is likewise hooked up to the positive terminal on the receiver and the other wire connects to the negative terminal on both ends.
