- Enlighten kids about the Bible with creative activities.bible image by Horticulture from Fotolia.com
Teaching students about the Bible and helping your children to better understand the stories they learned in Sunday School both offer opportunities to encourage kids to be creative and express their imaginations. Arts-and-crafts projects can supplement and illustrate Bible lessons such as the story of Adam and Eve being tempted by the snake and cast out of the Garden of Eden, told in the book of Genesis. - The Apple Stamp Craft is fun to make and gives kids an opportunity to use personal creativity to make an original craft. Prior to beginning, instruct kids to bring in a blank, clean canvas apron from home. You'll need an old sheet, newspaper or plastic tablecloth to cover tables, as well as fabric paint--red, yellow, green and brown--paint brushes, apples and a sharp knife. To begin, tell the children to take their aprons and lay them out flat on an open work space. Provide kids with a brush and brown paint and guide them as they draw a tree trunk at the bottom in the center. Allow time to dry. Meanwhile, have an adult cut some apples in half horizontally and pass out a seedless half to each student. Kids brush the halves with green paint, creating a thin coat, and press the apple stamp around the tree trunk to create leaves. Kids can build trees as light or full as they wish. Next, an adult cuts the rest of the apples in half vertically and passes these out to children, instructing them to paint the halves in yellow or red and stamp them on the trees to create apples. During drying times and while finishing up this craft, tell students the story of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden.
- Sneaky Snaky is a fun, colorful, easy craft to make. It requires few materials, can be created with little assistance and is a suitable visual aid to the telling of the Bible story of Adam and Eve. Every child participating in this craft will need his own large white paper plate. Scissors, various colors of watercolor paints, red pipe cleaners and wiggly eyes are also necessary. To begin, instruct children to paint the front of their plate with several colors and to make a very clear center circle in the middle of the plate, which will later serve as the head of the snake. After the plate has dried completely, tell or help children to cut around the plate in a spiral motion, moving toward the center. Next, apply two eyes with glue to the brightly colored circle in the middle and fold a red pipe cleaner into a scary tongue, inserting it into the plate under the eyes and taping the other end on back. Lift up your sneaky snake from the head and watch him spiral downward, as the snake that tempted Adam and Eve also did.
- This craft project offers kids a chance to create a picture book telling the story of Adam and Eve. Required materials include heavy-weighted paper, crayons or markers, and a stapler. Access to a printer is also necessary. The story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden with accompanying pictures is available for downloading and copying at DLTK's Make Your Own Books--Growing Together. Print the pictures--one for every child--and hand out to the class. Instruct students to color pictures and help them stack the pile in chronological order. Consider using card stock for the cover and backing so the book will last longer. Slip the pages inside and tap everything into straight placement. Have an adult staple the binding three or four times and trim off any excess edges. Sit in a circle and read the story together, kids taking turns talking about what the various images mean.
