How to Add Contacts From a Computer to the Blackberry

    • 1). Install the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to your computer if you have not already done so. Usually, BlackBerry includes the program on a disk that comes with your phone, but you can download it from BlackBerry.com.

    • 2). Connect your BlackBerry to your computer using the USB cord provided with your phone. The mini-USB plugs into your phone and the regular USB plugs into a port on your computer. The connection has the added benefit of charging your phone. Allow your computer to recognize it and load any applicable drivers. Select "No" on your BlackBerry when asked to turn on the "Mass Storage Mode."

    • 3). Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager. The program will recognize and load your connected BlackBerry phone automatically. When it has completed, click on the "Synchronize" icon in the right-hand section of the main menu.

    • 4). Click on "Synchronize" from the list of selections on the left-hand side of the Synchronization window, which will bring new options into the middle section.

    • 5). Choose "Synchronization" again under the heading Synchronization Configuration to configure your initial settings. Select the empty box next to "Address Book." A checkmark will appear as confirmation of your selection. If you wish to synchronize your Calendar, Tasks or MemoPad, select these options at this time as well.

    • 6). Click on "Setup" and choose the compatible contact organizer file that is on your computer. It will auto-populate with all available choices on your computer, as well as an ASCII Importer/Exporter option that you can use for CSV-type files from another program.

    • 7). Click "Next" and select the synchronization choices that best suit your needs. These include synchronization one-way to your BlackBerry, one-way from your BlackBerry, two-way synchronization as well as dates and times of synchronization. Click "Finish" to save all your settings. Repeat this "Setup" process for each contact file you wish to add to your BlackBerry.

    • 8). Click "OK" after completing the setup of your contact file(s). From the menu on the left-hand side, choose "Synchronize," and then click the "Synchronize" button in the middle section to begin the transfer of data between your computer and your BlackBerry.
