Screening Tests for CNS

    Cognitive

    • CNS Vital Signs computer software is designed to provide medical professionals diagnose medical conditions. For example, conditions such as fibromyalga and chronic fatigue syndrome are characterized by similar symptoms, including cognitive and neurocognitive difficulties. CNS Vital Signs provides screening using a series of standardized psychometric tests that can monitor the patient for any changes over time.

    Tests

    • Screening tests provided by CNS Vital Signs are categorized over five testing areas: memory, attention, motor control, reaction time and information-processing speed. Within these testing areas are seven computer tests that can be selected for each patient. These tests are made up of a verbal memory test, visual memory test, symbol digit coding test, finger-tapping test, Stroop test, continuous performance test and variable performance test. Versions of all the tests used by CNS Vital Signs are available to the public and are regarded by medical professionals as guides of neurocognitive function.

    Grading

    • The results of CNS' Vital Signs computer-based screening tests can be obtained in a variety of ways, with four types of scoring available for medical professionals. Raw scores can be obtained that provide results for each of the tests administered to patients. The test results can also be calculated into the five cognitive domains. Alternatively, the domain scores can be calculated within an age-related neurocognitive index that rates the scores of the test-taker with a database of scores from ages 8 through to 89. Scores are provided on CNS Vital Signs tests on a scale of four results: above average, average, below average and well below average.

    Use

    • CNS testing software can be used to chart the progression of a medical condition as it affects the cognitive process of a patient, regarding her behavioral and brain functions. The test results can provide a baseline measurement for medical professionals to compare as a condition progresses. The software can also be used to provide information about the progression of a disease for patients and their families assessed by an objective computer program. The storage of data provided by CNS Vital Signs computer software is compliant with U.S. governmental regulations under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
