- 1). Place a large tongue depressor onto a piece of 1/4-inch thick aluminum plate and then trace the tongue depressor onto the aluminum with a black marker.
- 2). Cut the shape out of the aluminum sheet with a band saw equipped with a metal cutting blade.
- 3). Smooth the rough edges of the tool with a file and then sand the edges with 600-grit sandpaper to smooth the corners.
- 4). Cut a 1/4-inch wide slot in one end of the tool with the band saw. Cut the slot approximately one inch into the end of the tool.
- 5). File the edges of the slot smooth with the file and then sand the edges smooth with the sandpaper.
- 6). Place the cut end of the tool into a vise approximately two inches. Grip the tool tightly with the jaws of the vise and then bend the tool to a 45-degree angle.
