- 1). Measure your doorway. Keep in mind the height and width of the doorway and that you will need a little space between the two doors.
- 2). Go to a lumber yard, hardware store, or home and garden store to see what kind of doors they have available. To make them real cafe doors (that swing both ways) you will need to get cafe door hinges. Some of these hinges will make the door jut out from the doorway, so keep that in mind in considering the width of the doors.
- 3). Look around for bankruptcy and liquidation sales. Restaurants often go out of business, and you will often be able to find cafe doors for sale.
- 4). Go to yard sales. Cafe doors were popular in the 1950s and 1960s and might be for sale.
- 5). Make your own cafe doors. If you have some experience with woodworking, making cafe doors is possible. Since they don't have to match up exactly with the door frame, you have more leeway. Doors that are a third of the size of the doorway are fine, and the two doors don't have to match. You can carve interesting shapes and experiment.
