- According to Apple, error 1015 most often occurs if you are attempting to downgrade the operating system (OS) on your iPhone to an older version of the software. Once an iPhone has the latest OS, reverting to an older version is not supported and may result in problems. Avoiding error 1015 is therefore generally as easy as leaving the latest version of iPhone OS on your device.
- Error 1015 can also occur if you have made modifications to your iPhone OS and are now trying to return it to the default state. New versions of the iPhone operating system are downloaded using iTunes; download the latest version to your device as it was intended and don't make alterations using third-party software or your own code.
- If you encounter an error 1015 message, Apple recommends restoring your iPhone to the newest OS version. Attach the device to your computer with the dock connector to USB cable while iTunes is open and select the "Summary" tab of your iPhone screen. Choose "Restore" to begin the process. If you receive the error again, detach your iPhone and put it in recovery mode by turning it off and then holding down the home button as you reattach it to your computer. Try to restore again in recovery mode.
- In some cases, error 1015may occur on your iPhone because of an inherent problem in the phone's hardware. According to Apple, this is a rare situation, but if it happens your device will need service. All iPhones are covered by a limited warranty for one year, which includes repair of hardware issues. After that, you will be required to pay for any services.
