Docking Station for an iPhone

    Purpose

    • Docking stations for iPods allow you to easily listen to music on your iPod without headphones. Headphones are great if you're out running or are riding the bus, but when you're at home, you might prefer the freedom of not having them in your ears. Docking stations don't just stop there, however; they also charge your iPod's battery while you listen to music. That way, when you're ready to leave the house again, your iPod will be ready, too.

    Features

    • A wide variety of manufacturers make iPod docking stations, each offering a different set of features. Most have speakers and familiar controls --- like volume and equalizer adjustments and play/pause/fast-forward/rewind buttons. Many can charge iPhones as well as iPods, so if you have both devices, you'll only need one docking station for them. Some have specialized features; for example, Chinon's Avi Stylix docking station has a 7" LCD screen display that allows you to stream Netflix from your i-Device of choice. Many have remote controls for ease of use.

    Price Range

    • As of May 2011, iPod docking stations cover a wide range of prices, starting from under $150 and ranging up to $600. A variety of styles, features, and brands are represented, from ultra-sleek and modern to incredibly simple, like the iLog. Designs shaped like animals and insects with bright colors are squarely aimed at kids and the young-at-heart. High-end audio manufacturers like Klipsch and computer peripheral manufacturers like Logitech alike have iPod docking stations available.

    Considerations

    • Depending on your office environment, you may consider buying an iPod docking station for work, as well as home. Consider the features you'd use most in a docking station in each environment. For example, a model with a very accurate long-range remote control is nice at home, but essential when you need to mute your music and take an important work phone call. Also, not all docking stations work with all iPods, so make sure the one you're considering will work with your particular model. Read reviews of different docking station models carefully before parting with your money. Consider the opinions of experts, but also consider the opinions of users like you, who've bought and lived with the docking station you're considering.
