- 1). Unplug the machine's power cord from the wall power outlet.
- 2). Unscrew the back casing of the sewing machine body with the screwdriver provided inside the Kenmore 158 maintenance kit. Remove the casing.
- 3). Remove the belt from inside the sewing machine. If the belt is stripped, but not broken, remove it from the larger gear (the wheel gear to the left) first.
- 4). Place the new belt inside the machine by placing the belt over the wheel gear first.
- 5). Hold the belt on the wheel gear with your left hand and pull the belt down to the gear to the needle shaft. Carefully place the belt over the smaller gear.
- 6). Turn the hand wheel toward you a few turns to make sure the belt is on securely and the gears move smoothly.
- 7). Replace the sewing machine casing and replace the screws with the screwdriver.
