- 1). Remove the molding from the perimeter of the room by inserting a pry bar behind it. Remove the nails and set the mold aside to re-use later.
- 2). Measure the room with a tape measure. Cut 1/4-inch plywood with a circular saw to use as underlayment for the floor. Arrange the plywood on the floor so that the joints do not match with the floor joists. Stagger joints in the plywood so they don't all line up. Attach the plywood with 1-1/4 inch 3-penny nails.
- 3). Fill the joints in the underlayment with leveling compound spread using a wide putty knife. Let the compound dry for 30 minutes and then sand the seams smooth with 100-grit sandpaper in a hand sander.
- 4). Cut away the lowest portion of the door trim with a handsaw. Cut only the thickness of the tile you are using.
- 5). Vacuum the room to remove all debris.
- 6). Use the tape measure to locate the center of each wall. Mark the center point. From the center point on each opposing wall, snap a chalk line. Use a carpenter's square to make sure the lines intersect at 90-degree angles. If not, re-snap the lines.
- 7). Peel the back off of a tile. Align the tile along the intersection of one quadrant of the room. Press the tile firmly in place. Peel the paper off the second tile. Butt it firmly against the right edge of the first tile and place it along the line. Press the second tile in place. Peel the paper off the third tile and butt it against the left edge of the first tile and set it along the opposite line of the angle. Continue peeling, placing and pressing tiles until you finish the first quadrant of the room. If you need narrower tiles along the perimeter of the room, leave the space open for now.
- 8). Repeat the process of setting the tiles until you finish all four quadrants of the room.
- 9). Measure the size of any tiles around the perimeter of the room that are not full size. Use a straight edge to mark where to cut them. Either cut them with a utility knife held against the straight edge, or rent a tile cutter. Cut odd shapes, such as around plumbing, with a utility knife. Peel and stick the tiles in position.

Press a rolling pin firmly to the vinyl flooring. Move it back and forth in all directions over the entire floor to help set the adhesive backing on the tiles. - 11
Re-install the molding around the room. If you prefer, replace the old molding with new. Use finishing nails to secure it to the wall.
