- 1). Turn your HP notebook off, remove the AC power cable, close the screen display and turn the computer upside down. Then slide the rectangular battery from its compartment on the underside of the computer.
- 2). Locate the memory compartment cover on the underside of your computer. Consult your HP user manual to find out how to discern the memory cover on your particular model notebook. As a general rule of thumb, it is a square compartment in the middle of the underside of your computer and labeled "M."
- 3). Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove any screws on the memory compartment cover and then remove the cover. On most HP notebooks, there are two screws securing the compartment cover.
- 4). Locate the memory module inside the compartment. It is the green rectangular board in the middle of the compartment. Notice that there are two thin metal bars on either side of the memory module.
- 5). Use your fingers to pull both metal bars away from the memory and the module will pop slightly out of the compartment at a 45-degree angle.
- 6). Slide the memory module gently out of the compartment and slide a new module (available from your HP retailer or online) in its place. Gently push the module down into the compartment until the metal bars lock it in place. Replace the compartment cover, screws and battery, and you will have upgraded the memory in your HP.
