What Glue to Use for Installing Granite Counters

    Epoxy

    • The most trusted type of glue used in granite counter top installations, epoxy glue is a mixture of resins and hardeners that creates one of the most durable bonds in the industry. However, epoxies are difficult to work with, and the professional-grade epoxy glues are only available to licensed professionals. Any counter top installed with epoxy will last for generations.

    Silicone

    • Most silicone adhesives are only rated for 25 years; so if you are looking for a “lifetime” investment, you can use silicone glues and rest assured that the counter will be in place for a long time. Silicone adhesives are widely available and can be found in any home improvement store, with specific types apart from the all-purpose adhesives. Some specialty silicones are made exclusively for granite counter installation.

    Construction Adhesive

    • All-purpose construction adhesive can be used to install granite counters as well, although it is not the preferred type of glue. A good construction adhesive will last for 15 to 20 years in most cases and is generally cheaper than epoxy or granite silicone, which makes it ideal if you are building or remodeling a kitchen on a budget.

    Tile Mastic

    • Tile mastic is a special type of glue designed to work with ceramic tiles and natural stones. If you are installing granite tiles for your counter top, this is the best option for gluing the pieces down. It is readily available in any home improvement store and is typically sold in buckets that contain sufficient mastic glue for your tile counter top and projects in the future.
