Small, lightweight ornaments work best with grapevine trees.miniature apple decorations image by timur1970 from Fotolia.com
Turn the tomato plant cage upside down. You want the point facing upward. Wrap wire around the prongs near the bottom of the cage so that the "cone" is solid and steady as it transforms into a tree. Snip the wire with wire cutters. - 2). Grasp the end of the grapevine in your hand and wire it to the bottom of the cage by wrapping wire around the cage and the grapevine, locking it in place.
- 3). Wrap the grapevine through the cage, looping it through the inside of the cage and then on the outside of the cage. Loop the wire in and out along with the grapevine, twisting them together as you wrap them around the cage, slowly wrapping them up the tree. Once you get the grapevine wrapped all the way to the top of the tree, wrap the wire around the top of the cage to secure the grapevine in place. Snip the remaining amount of wire off of the grapevine.
- 4). Take other shorter pieces of wire and go along the base of the tree, wrapping the short pieces of wire around the grapevine and the base of the cage to give the grapevine extra support. Continue this process until the grapevine is secure and will not slide off of the cage. Snip all of the excess wires off with the wire cutters.
- 5). Add lights first to the grapevine tree if you plan to use lights as decoration. Wrap the lights around the grapevine, tightly, as you did the grapevine and the wire. You will also need to cut some more short wires and wire the lights in place in some areas.
- 6). Add other decorations as desired, such as miniature faux apples, bows, handmade ornaments or a popcorn and cranberry garland. Ornaments that are homemade fit the grapevine theme best.
