- 1). Disconnect the computer from any electrical sources and remove the side access panel. Removing the side access panel may require removal of several thumbscrews from the rear face of the chassis.
- 2). Locate the BIOS battery. This is a solitary flat battery with a circular shape.
- 3). Remove the battery from its cradle by firmly gripping it by its sides and lifting away from the motherboard. Some BIOS batteries can not be gripped by the side and require a screwdriver be used to gently pry the battery out.
- 4). Press and hold the power button on the computer for 10 seconds. The computer will appear to start up, however, it will quickly power down. This ensures that all remaining power within the CMOS chip and power supply are used, allowing the BIOS settings to revert to their default values.
- 5). Reinsert the BIOS battery.
- 6). Replace the computer's side access panel and re-establish any electric connections previously severed. Boot the computer into its operating system normally. The BIOS is now re-set to have no password.
