- 1). Cut your carpet tube to your desired height. One-foot high works for most children. Stand the tube up next to your child to locate his or her ideal drumming height.
- 2). Deflate your beach ball and cut a circle six inches in diameter. You will want the two extra inches to overlap the tube.
- 3). Take the embroidery hoop apart, noting an inner and outer piece. Stretch the piece of beach ball over the inner hoop, and place the outer piece over it. Place this over one end of the carpet tube. Use the masking tape to secure it in place.
- 4). Place the carpet tube into the flower pot, ensuring the side with the beach ball is on the opposite end. You will bang on the beach ball as your drum head.
- 5). Decorate your carpet tube using paint or any other craft tools. Add fabric and create patterns to create a more authentic look for your African toy drum.
- 1). Measure the height of the coffee can with your ruler or tape measure. Also measure the circumference of the can.
- 2). Cut a piece of construction paper matching the dimensions of the coffee can. Decorate the construction paper to your liking. Draw shapes, patterns or words on the construction paper using markers. Add stickers or fabric if you have those available.
- 3). Flip the construction paper over, decorated side down. If you have a glue stick, rub a layer of glue around all of the edges of your construction paper. For liquid glue, place dabs of glue on all corners, and every few inches across the other sides.
- 4). Wrap the construction paper around the coffee can, pressing firmly against the can. Allow liquid glue to dry before playing your drum.
- 5). Place the plastic lid back on top of the coffee can. Let your child drum away.
