- 1). Place the driver disc that came with your floppy drive into the CD drive on your laptop. If your laptop does not have a CD drive, navigate to the floppy drive manufacturer's website and click "Support," "Downloads" or "Drivers" and select your drive's driver software to download it. Your packaging may include instructions on where to find the downloadable drivers.
- 2). Click "Start," then "Computer," then double-click your CD drive if the disc does not start automatically. If you are downloading a driver instead of using a CD, double-click the downloaded file. Each of these methods will launch the installation wizard.
- 3). Follow all of the onscreen prompts to install the driver software on your computer.
- 4). Plug your new floppy drive into an available USB port when the prompts tell you to do so; do not plug it in before this point.
- 5). Finish the installation wizard according to the onscreen instructions, including restarting your computer if prompted to do so. Once the installation is complete, you can use your external floppy drive the same way you would use a built-in drive.
