- 1). Determine the proper location for the solar cell on your roof. Mount the solar cells in an area that receives ample sunlight all day long.
- 2). Attach the solar cell to your house roof with the help of panel mount and rail system. This mounting system comes with the solar cells. While installing the solar panels on the mounting device, make sure there is a sufficient gap between the underside of the solar panels and the surface of your roof. This ensures adequate ventilation of the solar panels, and prevents them from being overheated.
- 3). Use a stud finder to find out where the supporting beams rest beneath the roof. Attaching the solar system to the supporting beams keeps it intact even during inclement weather.
- 4). Use an electric drill to pre-drill the holes in the middle of the supporting beams. This keeps the supporting beams from splitting.
- 5). Fasten the roofing nails or screws into the pre-drilled holes of the supporting beams to attach the solar cells to the supporting beams. The roofing nails are located at the base of the mounting system.
- 6). Take necessary measures to prevent leakage during the drilling process. Cover the base of the mount system by applying a paste of hot tar.
- 7). Hire an electrician to connect the solar panels to the house. Have a breaker installed to harness the electricity generated by solar power.
