- Receiving TiVo means that you have to purchase a TiVo box. TiVo replaces your cable box and requires that you have a high-speed Internet connection. If you do not have high-speed Internet, TiVo can connect to the web through a phone line, but many features will be disabled.
- If you want to download movies, surf the web and utilize social networking on your television through the TiVo DVR, these all require that you subscribe to the TiVo service. TiVo offers different types of services ranging from a basic plan to TiVo Plus. There are a few differences between these two services. TiVo Basic allows your DVR to function like a VCR. You can use the guide and set programs to record up to three days ahead of time. The Plus service offers fourteen days of scheduling and comes with many extras like access to music and advanced search options.
- Using your TiVo without any service will severely limit your TiVo box. You will still be able to pause, stop, rewind and fast forward live television, but all of the other functions the box is capable of will be disabled.
