- 1). Check the USB cable connection running from the printer to your computer. If the cable is not connected completely, the print request never reaches your printer.
- 2). Open the scanner lid and spray window cleaner on the glass. If fingerprints and dirt are on the glass, your scanned documents appear fuzzy. Wipe the glass with a soft cloth and allow it to dry before shutting the lid.
- 3). Replace the ink cartridges if the faxes or print jobs are appearing streaked or dull. A compartment door on the rear of the device opens up, revealing the ink cartridges.
- 4). Click "Start," "Control Panel" and double-click the "Printer" option. Right-click the "Lexmark X5470" option, then select to set it as the default printer. This makes sure that all print requests are sent to the Lexmark printer. Often times if another printer is installed on the computer, the print requests are sent to it instead of the Lexmark, preventing any of your documents from being printed.
- 5). Power down the printer and leave it off for a minute or two. Turn the device back on and wait for it to boot up. This performs a hard shutdown and restarts the entire system, removing any error taking place in the memory of the Lexmark X5470.
