- 1). Add 1 cup of white school glue and 1 cup of hot water to the glass bowl. Add approximately 4 cups of shredded tissue paper to the mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon to create the papier mache base for your nest.
- 2). Spray the underside and sides of a plastic salad bowl liberally with nonstick cooking spray. Place the bowl on a protected surface.
- 3). Pour the papier mache mixture over the upturned bowl. Use your fingers to arrange the papery chunks in a form around the bowl to mimic its shape. Allow the bowl to dry in this position for 12 to 24 hours. Place a fan in front of the bowl to speed the drying process.
- 4). Separate the papier mache from the bowl and set the bowl aside. Use scissors to trim the uneven edges of the bowl, shaping it into a shallow bird nest shape.
- 5). Turn the bowl-shaped nest object over with the bottom facing up. Add several small dots of white school glue to the surface.
- 6). Add a thin strip of tissue paper to each spot of glue. Add more glue dots to accommodate more strips. You will use about 2 cups of strips to coat the upturned nest with them. The strips should be 1/8-inch wide by 5 inches long. Allow the nest to dry for 15 minutes.
- 7). Use your hands to cup the upturned nest, pressing the tacky glued paper in a mold around it. This gives it the textured appearance of a woven nest.
- 8). Add 1 cup of shredded paper to the nest bowl after it is turned right side up. Fill with decorative soaps.
