- 1). Click on the "Start" menu on your computer. It is located in the bottom left-hand corner of your Windows computer screen.
- 2). Click on the "Control Panel" option so a window opens. Find the "Sound" section of the options available. Depending on the operating system you are running, it could be a heading or a subheading in the categories presented.
- 3). Click on the "Sound" option and choose the Recording tab in the smaller window that has opened.
- 4). Select your microphone from the list of options presented under the Recording tab. If you are on a laptop, the microphone might be built into the computer. If you are running a desktop computer, the microphone will be an accessory, such as Logitech, for example.
- 5). Click the recording option under your chosen microphone and place your cell phone close to the microphone. Before you start the recording process, click "Record" on the computer and then "Play" on your phone, so the microphone can record the message. Put your cell phone on speakerphone as your play the message.
- 6). End the recording by clicking "Stop." Listen to the recording using the computer speakers to see if you need to do it again. Save the file on your desktop with a name you can remember. For example, you may want to save the file with the name of the person who has left the message and the date and time.
