- 1). Open the crown -- the small knob on the side of the watch -- to set it. Depending on your specific quartz watch, the crown either opens by pulling or by turning. Pull on the crown to open it, or screw the crown counterclockwise until it doesn't go any further, then pull it the rest of the way. Familiarize yourself with the pulling or screwing motion, since this is how you'll set the watch.
- 2). Pull the crown out halfway to adjust the date, if your Seiko features a date. The crown should "click" into place. Turn the crown clockwise to advance the date number until you reach the day before present day (so "14" if it's the 15th of the month). If your watch doesn't have a date setting, skip this step.
- 3). Pull the crown out fully to change the time. Move the crown to manipulate the watch hands, until they display the correct time. The date should change to the right day (for example, to "15") as you move the hands past the 12 o'clock position. If you turn to the correct time, for example, "3:15 p.m.," and the date is still off, move the watch hands around the face one more time to advance the date, then stop when you get back to the time.
- 4). Push the crown back in once you set the date on Seiko models with a push-in crown. For a screw crown, push in and then screw clockwise to shut the crown valve.
