2014 Review of 40 Features in Google Keep

About.com Rating

You may be looking to improve your productivity with a more simple note-taking application for web or mobile. Here is how Google Keep stacks up in more than 40 features.

Developer: Google

Latest Version: 2014

Delivery: Google Keep is an online note taking app which can sync to desktop or mobile.

Similar or Associated Software by Google: Google Apps and many more. See Page 2 of this review.

Quick Summary

  • What's Excellent: The price and simplicity. Google Keep is a free digital organization tool, allowing users to set reminders, make lists, capture images and, on some platforms audio, then attach those to notes (typical office software files can be attached as well). It is part of Google Drive, which offers free cloud storage space. One of my favorite features? Setting a location-triggered reminder or alarm.
  • What's Not So Excellent: Limited operating system compatibility, lack of notebooks for organization, and unless you are on an Android or use Chrome, you cannot use Google Keep offline. This is not a collaborative note-taking tool, though you can share your notes to Google+. Other missing features include: a specific web-clipping tool, comments, charts, presentation mode, reference or bibliography tools, accessibility options, and more.
  • Who Google Keep is Good For: Those who work in Google Drive a lot, who have dependable internet access or an Android mobile device and want a slim program that is easy to use for something simple like making lists, will likely appreciate Google Keep. If you are interested in taking pictures of text which can then be searched as digital notes, this may work for your home, work, or school projects, though other note taking programs may offer more in this regard.
