Weaving is the textile art in which two distinct sets of yarns, called the warp and weft, form a tissue or cloth. The fabric is woven on a loom. The majority of woven products are created with plain weave, satin or twill fabric. Woven fabrics can be simple (in one color or pattern), or can be woven in decorative or artistic works, including tapestries.

    Northwest (U.S.) Weavers

    • The American Northwest Weavers Guild gives grants to promote weaving education within the Northwest region by assisting guilds to hold weaving workshops. The workshop instructor can't be a member of the applying guild. The Guild Board will award between five and ten grants and prefers to give grants to guilds that haven't received one within the last five years.

    Weavers of Glasgow

    • The Weavers of Glasgow date back to the middle ages, at least as far back as 1514. Even then, though the main function of the guild was to control weaving trade standards, they also had a charitable role, which they've continued to this day. To this end, the Weavers fund grants, scholarships and prizes for textile students at various Scottish universities. They also support the weaver at the Weaver's Cottage, Kilbarchan, operated by the National Trust for Scotland.

    Handweavers Guild of America

    • The Handweavers Guild of America gives money to students enrolled in accredited academic weaving programs. The guild also funds student assistantship grants at the Convergence conference. Individual HGA members can receive grants to study or attend workshops. One of these is the Teach-It-Forward Grant, given to someone who is very successful at bringing new people to the world of weaving. Other HGA grants include: HGA and Dendel Scholarships, Convergence Assistantship Grant, Silvio and Eugenia Petrini Grant, and the Mearl K. Gable II Memorial Grant.
