How to Install a Replacement for Reliabilt Windows

    • 1). Start by measuring the length and width of either the window opening or the removed Reliabilt window unit. Record these measurements and order your new windows from a DIY or window specialist center, preferably in your local area. You can also make orders online, but make sure to allow sufficient time for shipping and handling.

    • 2). Use a putty and utility knife to cleanse the area around where the old unit was installed (also called the buck area or window opening).

    • 3). Bend the metal flanges back on your new window unit by laying it down flat on a workmen's table or another flat surface for support.

    • 4). Place caulking around the flanges with the use of a caulking gun. This will secure and seal the window unit to the frame after you place it in the window buck.

    • 5). Using wood shims, level the window unit into place in the window buck and use a level to check your work and to make sure the window unit is plumb. It helps to have a friend help you by lifting and holding the window in place while you adjust the wooden shim pieces.

    • 6). Hammer the nails supplied in your kit into the metal flange area 4 to 6 inches apart around the whole window. If screws were included, drill them into place with a power drill.

    • 7). Touch up any areas with too much caulking dripping out with your damp rag and allow the caulking to dry for 24 to 48 hours minimum or as directed by the manufacturer.
