- 1). Locate where the wire will need to emerge on the first floor. Use the drywall saw to open a 12-inch square in the drywall if the drywall is in place.
- 2). Drill a hole through the center of the double header in the wall between two studs down toward the basement.
- 3). Locate the same two wall studs in the basement and cut a small hole in the drywall if drywall is present. Go back to the first floor and begin pushing the fish tape through the newly drilled hole down to the basement.
- 4). Tie a pull string to the fish tape in the basement and pull the fish tape and string back up to the first floor. Untie the string and tie the opposite end of it to the end of the electrical wire in the basement. From the first floor, begin pulling the electrical wire up to the first floor. Once the wire comes through the hole, grab the wire and continue pulling the wire up from the basement until the amount of wire needed has been pulled up.
- 5). Secure the bottom end of the cable to a stud in the basement using the electrical cable staples, and then secure the top end of the cable to a stud on the first floor.
