How to Copy Directv DVR to DVD

    • 1). Plug the RCA component cables (color-match them: red, white and yellow) to the "Output" of your DirectTV DVR. Use the red and white plugs for the audio output and the yellow plug for the video output.

    • 2). Plug the other end of your RCA component cables into the "Input" of your DVD recorder. Use the red and white cables for the audio input and the yellow cable for the video input.

    • 3). Turn on your DirectTV DVR and then turn on your TV. Wait for the DVR to initialize and take you to the home screen.

    • 4). Turn on your DVD recorder by pressing the "Power" button on the front or back of the unit. Press the small button with the "Open" sign on it. Wait for the drive to open and then put a blank DVD-R into the drive. Close the drive with the same small button.

    • 5). Go to your DirectTV DVR and press the "Menu" button. Scroll through the menu with the small up and down arrow keys on the DVR remote until you come to "Programs".

    • 6). Press the "Enter" button on the remote control to access this menu. Scroll down to "Recorded Programs" and press the same button.

    • 7). Scroll through your recorded programs until you come to the movie or a TV show you want to record.

    • 8). Go to your DVD recorder and press the "Record" button.

    • 9). Go back to your DirectTV DVR and press the "Play" button while your show or movie is highlighted.

    • 10

Wait until the show or movie has finished playing, then press the "Stop" button on your DVD recorder. The display on the DVD recorder will read "Finalizing" (or something similar, depending on your model).

    • 11

Wait until your DVD recorder has finished finalizing your DVD. Open the drive and label your DVD accordingly.
