- 1). Make one diagonal fold in the origami paper. Unfold the paper.
- 2). Bring the corner to the middle on one side of the diagonal crease so that top edge is even with the center. Now bring the corner to the middle so that the bottom edge is even with the center. Unfold. Fold the corner up using the creases that were created. Fold the corner in half and toward top of the paper. Repeat the same process on the other side of the paper.
- 3). Pick up the paper. Fold the top down to meet with the bottom. The edges created in step 2 will now be the top.
- 4). Take the left flap of the paper, and fold it down to the right so that the corner meets with the right edge. Take the right flap of the paper, and fold it down to the left so that the corner meets with the left edge.
- 5). Open the paper back up to the way it looked before step 3. There should be two main creases on each side of the paper. Fold the left and right corners backward where those creases end.
- 6). Fold one side of the paper outward. There will be a triangle where creases have been created. Push this area down, and compress it so that one edge of the area meets with the other. Do this to the other side of the paper as well.
- 7). Fold the top corner down so that its crease meets with the two corners in the middle of the paper. Turn the paper over to the flat surface. The top will turn inward slightly. Fold the main piece down at this point. Do not fold the top triangle. Tuck the edges inward so that a section of both sides of the top triangle is folded inward on itself.
- 8). Fold the piece in half vertically. Fold the piece upwards horizontally at a 90-degree angle. Use the creases created by the inside corners to do this. Fold the top half of this crease down 45 degrees to make the toucan's head. Zigzag the head twice to create a beak. Zigzag the beak once again toward the bottom.
- 9). Fold the paper in at the two creases located toward the back below the two middle flaps. Zigzag this area to make the tail relatively even with the wings. Twist the bottommost corners behind the wings to make small feet. Fold the tail to half its length. Tuck the folded portion below the tail. The toucan is now complete.
