- 1). Find the Printer's MAC address. To do this, print out the printer's configuration settings. The address will be labeled "hardware address."
- 2). Connect your computer to a LAN port on your router.
- 3). Open Internet Explorer. In the address bar enter "http://" then the router's IP address. The router's IP address can be found by clicking "Start," then "All programs," "Accessories" and "Command prompt." Enter "ipconfig." The address beside "Default Gateway" is the router's IP address.
- 4). Type "admin" when prompted for a user name and "password" when asked for a password.
- 5). Click "Wireless settings" in the ADVANCED menu.
- 6). Select "Setup access list" and click "Add."
- 7). Enter the name of the printer in the device name field and then the MAC address in the "MAC Address" field. Click "Add."
- 8). Click "Apply." Your printer will now be recognized by your router. Your security is unchanged.
