- 1). Turn off any lights that can be seen from your yard on the side of the house where the door is located. Since the nest is on your door, you should leave through another exit when you go to approach the nest.
- 2). Put on heavy clothing and wear a beekeeper's suit over your clothing. Wrap red cellophane over the lens of a flashlight. Wasps are normally drawn to white light, but they cannot see the color red.
- 3). Direct the wasp pesticide spray at any wasps flying around the hive.
- 4). Apply the wasp pesticide powder into the hive. If the hive is a mud daubers' hive, scrape it off your door.
- 5). Paint all of the unfinished surfaces on the exterior of your home or substitute paint with wood finish if desired. This will deter the wasps from constructing more hives.
- 6). Search inside hollow walls on your property and around your vents, attic and crawlspaces -- anywhere more hives may be hidden -- and destroy any you find, using the technique detailed in the prior steps.
