- 1). Prep your computer for a reboot. While your computer is powered on remove any CDs and DVDs. Then shut down your computer.
- 2). Enter Safe Mode. If your computer has only one operating system installed, restart your computer and press the F8 key, which will enter Safe Mode. The start-up process can be quick. If your computer goes up to the Windows logo, it's gone too far; you must restart it and press F8 again at the right time to enter Safe Mode. If your computer has more than one operating system installed (dual-boot or multi-boot), you will want to use your arrow keys to select the operating system you wish to make changes to, then press F8 to enter Safe Mode.
- 3). On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select "Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)"; press "Enter." Your computer will revert back to that last configuration and restart. In a dual-boot or multi-boot situation, you may have to highlight your operating system once again and press "Enter." Windows will revert and restart.
