- 1). Use a level to determine the bottom rack of the underpinning. Once the area is level, you can put down shingles to help keep the underpinning sturdy and prevent future damage, such as getting too close with a weed-eater.
- 2). Use the trenching spade and dig down about three to four inches to allow room for the bottom of the underpinning. Once the underpinning is in place, you can move the dirt back around the underpinning to keep it sturdy .
- 3). Slide the top lip of the underpinning panel behind the outside trim of the home. Once the trims are interlocked, use screws to secure the underpinning.
- 4). Remove the lip edge from one side of the underpinning. Overlap the trimmed edge over the untrimmed side of another panel. Use screws to attach the two panels together. Try to use screws in the "mortar" of the rock, where it's easiest to screw the panels together.
- 5). Score a rock panel for corners, using a utility knife. Use a heat gun to heat the scored line and slowly mold the panel around the corner. Use wood trim behind the underpinning where screws are for extra support.
- 6). Cut holes for the underpinning vents, using a power saw. The vinyl rock underpinning won't have proper ventilation without it. Make sure the vents are open when you're finished.
