- 1). Turn the heat setting knob on your washing machine to "Hot." Add 3 cups bleach to the water and allow the washer to run a complete cycle without having any clothes in it. Bleach is effective against mold ,as is the heat from the water.
- 2). Purchase Affresh tablets for your washing machine if you still smell the mold after you have used the bleach. Turn your heat setting on the washer to "Hot" and add one Affresh tablet. Run through one cycle without any laundry. The Affresh tablets work by getting under the mold and breaking it apart. If you own a front-load washer, use these tablets once per month to keep the mold away.
- 3). Use Smelly Washer cleaner as an all natural alternative to the Affresh tablets. Turn your heat setting to "Hot" and fill your washer with water. Add 1/2 oz. Smelly Washer cleaner and run without placing any laundry in the washer. Repeat this a second time and your washer will be free of the mold and any lingering odors. One bottle will provide 24 treatments. Repeat monthly to keep the mold away.
- 4). Wipe down the inside of the door to your fron- load washer after each use with some paper towels, then leave it open so that the inside can dry out. This will prevent future problems with mold.
