- 1). Clean the furniture thoroughly with the furniture cleaner and the scrub pad. Remove any stains, grime, grease or other dirt from the furniture. This step will help prevent flaws and imperfections from appearing in the finished paint product.
- 2). Wait for the furniture to dry. You should also disassemble the furniture at this point if possible. It is often easier to paint the individual pieces rather than to paint the assembled item.
- 3). Sand down every surface you wish to paint, which will help the paint form a stronger bond to the furniture surface. Sand any painted or finished surfaces harder to scuff the surfaces, which will also aid in the bonding process.
- 4). Clean off any dust left behind from the sanding job.
- 5). Paint the first coat of silver paint on the furniture. Do not worry if the previous color or wood grain shows through the first coat; you can cover that up with subsequent coats.
- 6). Wait for the first coat to dry, and then paint on the second coat of paint. If the under color still shows through, add a third coat after the second coat dries.
