- 1). Measure out 4 tsp. of bentonite powder.
- 2). Heat 1/2 cup of water in a saucepan until it boils. Take the pan off the heat and add the 4 tsp. of bentonite powder. Stir with a wooden mixing spoon until the powder is completely dissolved. Allow the mixture to cool to a lukewarm temperature.
- 3). Pour the lukewarm bentonite mixture into beer in the secondary fermentation stage, one week before bottling--Brewer's Lair says this dosage will clarify five gallons of beer. Secondary fermentation is usually performed while in the bottle during home brewing but can also be performed in a separate container. If the secondary fermentation stage will be performed in the bottle, add the bentonite directly before bottling.
