- 1). Chain 17 stitches using a G-6 crochet hook. Single-crochet beginning in the second chain away from the hook, and then single-crochet each chain across for 16 stitches total.
- 2). Chain one stitch, then turn and single-crochet in each single crochet stitch across the row. Repeat this step until the piece totals 5 inches from the beginning. Bind off.
- 3). Repeat Steps 1 and 2 to create the back piece as you created the front, binding off at the end. Both the back and front should look identical in size and shape, so pay attention to gauge while crocheting.
- 4). Chain two stitches to begin an arm or leg. Work six single-crochet stitches in the first chain. Place a stitch marker in the beginning of the round and move this marker as you complete each round. For round two, work two single-crochet stitches in each previous stitch until you have 12. For rounds three through seven, single crochet in each stitch all the way around. Bind off.
- 5). Repeat Step 4 until you have four identical pieces. These are the arms and legs of the kitten.
- 1). Chain two stitches to begin the tail. Work six stitches in the first chain and attach a stitch marker. Move the stitch marker up with the completion of each round.
- 2). Single-crochet in each stitch around for all subsequent rows. Continue until the tail measures 3 inches in length from the beginning. Fasten off.
- 3). Sew the tail on to the back piece using a big-eye needle. Ensure that the tail is fastened completely to the piece.
- 1). Attach plastic doll eyes to the front piece of the body according to package directions. Use scrap yarn to stitch whiskers and mouth onto face with a big-eye needle.
- 2). Join the body's front and back pieces together, then single crochet evenly spaced around three of the sides through both pieces to bind them. Work two single crochet stitches in each corner for durability. Stuff the body using polyester fiber filling before crocheting the last side closed.
- 3). Stuff each of the four arms and legs. Use small pieces of stuffing and stuff carefully so that each arm and leg is even. Sew them to the body using a big-eye needle.
- 4). Use a running stitch diagonally across each of the top two corners of the body to create the ears. Make sure that some stuffing remains in the ears before sewing them.
