- 1). Print out an enlarged picture of the shawl's motif pattern. Using a pencil, mark circles on the motif where you might want to place beads, such as around the corners, in special stitches, or at the top of picot stitches.
- 2). Highlight your penciled marks once you have settled on your bead placements.
- 3). Using the same highlighter, mark the pattern instructions that correspond to where you want to add your beads. For example, if you've added a bead to a cluster stitch on a particular round, highlight that notation in the pattern as a visual reminder of your bead placement.
- 4). Count the number of beads you'll need for the entire motif and string the correct amount onto your crochet thread.
- 5). Crochet your shawl using the highlighted marks in your pattern as a reminder to bring a bead up to your crochet hook prior to beginning the marked stitch.
- 6). Work each stitch normally while holding the bead in place with the thumb of the hand you crochet with. Each bead will work into the stitch without any further positioning.
- 7). Shape and block your finished garment.
