- 1). Position the trimmer on a flat and level surface. Gently rock the trimmer unit to see if the feet shift easily, move unevenly, or if there is excessive wobble.
- 2). Lift the guillotine blade so it is fully extended and stays in the open position. Set the safety latch to hold the blade safely open while you position the material for cutting onto the trimmer surface.
- 3). Slide the material for cutting under the guide bar so that the portion for removal is sticking out off the trimmer. Adjust the placement of the item so it rests squarely against the side paper guide.
- 4). Place one hand on the paper, card stock or photo, with your fingers positioned well away from the blade area. Release the blade safety latch and lower the blade slightly to check that the cut is set to start where desired.
- 5). Hold the guillotine blade handle firmly with one hand and press down onto the material with the other to keep it from shifting while cutting. Use a firm, even stroke when you pull down on the handle to make a smooth cut.
- 6). Remove the item from the trimmer and adjust its placement or orientation to make any additional cuts. Throw away the trimmed pieces of scrap.
