- Living in a home with a high level of mold is very dangerous. Mold can cause serious health problems in humans. Respiratory difficulties, coughing and sore throat can result from exposure to mold. Mold can also trigger attacks in asthmatics. The elderly, children, pregnant women and people with respiratory problems face greatest risk from mold.
- Mold grows on organic materials under moist conditions. Mold can grow in any area of the home that has excessive moisture, such as a flooded basement. Any part of a house that shows water stains needs checking for mold growth. Peeling paint might signify that the wall has excessive moisture and is harboring mold.
- Bleach is an excellent cleaning agent for mold. Use a one part bleach to eight parts water solution for mold cleanup. Wear a respirator in addition to gloves and goggles when doing any mold removal.
