- 1). Locate the nails that attach the quarter round molding to the baseboard around the perimeter of the room. Typically they will be spaced two to three feet apart on the quarter round.
- 2). Place the curved end of a small pry bar against the wall where the quarter round meets the wall, above the first nail head.
- 3). Tap down on the pry bar with a hammer to loosen the first nail. Repeat the process along the length of the quarter round piece and along every other piece until the quarter round is detached from the wall.
- 4). Position the curved edge of a large pry bar against the wall near a corner of the room. Working on the long plank edge of the floor, place the pointed end of the bar into the expansion space that was hidden by the quarter round. The pointed edge of the pry bar should be positioned so it rests where the flooring edge meets the subfloor.
- 5). Pry up the first plank of hardwood by pushing the pry bar against the wall, separating the plank from the subfloor.
- 6). Repeat the process, prying up each plank and row of hardwood floor until the entire subfloor has been exposed.
- 7). Remove any nails or staples that remain in the floor by grasping the head with a pair of pliers and lifting with a pull-twist motion.
